Blue Shield of California has announced new details about Altais, its technology and service company designed to help independent doctors and practices improve their patient health outcomes. Altais is partnering with the California Medical Association and a Maryland-based accountable care company called Aledade to support independent doctors and practices and allow them to fully focus on care rather than become bogged down with administrative tasks. Altais CEO Dr. Jeff Bailet said his company will invest in practices to further support physicians, including even employing them in select situations. The company will also provide technological resources for independent practices. Bailet hopes Altais will provide much-needed help for independent physicians and reduce turnover and retirement rates. Statistics suggest that care costs go up when physicians leave independent practice and join a health network, so Altais may also save patients money on treatment.
