Amazon Jumps Into Healthcare With Telemedicine Initiative
by Associated Press
Amazon confirms its Amazon Care telemedicine program will be expanded from its employees in Washington state to employers nationwide, marking its first foray into providing healthcare services beyond its own workforce. The Amazon Care app offers 24 hour a day access to doctors, nurses, and nurse practitioners who can provide services and treatment over the phone. Additional in-person services currently offered in the Seattle area, such as pharmacy delivery and house-call services, also will be offered in the Baltimore-Washington-Northern Virginia market, where Amazon is building a second headquarters. Users are asked questions when they log into the app and then are routed to a health professional, usually in 60 seconds or less. Care Medical has signed an exclusive contract with Amazon to supply healthcare providers for the service.
