Becker's ASC Review (08/19) Popa, Rachel
A trio of accreditation experts weighed in on ASC accreditation challenges and opportunities in separate interviews with Becker's ASC Review. The first was Ted Gottis, senior vice president at MedTrainer, who said properly credentialing physicians can increase ASC profits. Gottis works with ASCs to help staffers manage the credentialing process and the verification of new doctors' professional backgrounds when they join ASCs or hospitals. Also providing his thoughts was ASC Chairman Kemal Erkan. He stressed the importance of developing policies and procedures that align with the facility's standards. "We have been part of an accountable healthcare organization (ACO)," he noted, "which made it facile. With the ACO, we have been providing team-based integrated care." Finally, Tess Poland, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care's senior vice president of accreditation services, was interviewed. Her thoughts centered on the importance of the association's advanced orthopedic certification in the increasingly crowded ASC market.
